Maastricht is an international city with a lot of opportunities. Maastricht is located in the Euregion Meuse-Rhine and thus close to international cities like Aachen, Düsseldorf, Liege, Brussels and Antwerp. The diversity of the European culture is best visible in Maastricht. Amongst others, this was emphasized with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992.
Nowadays, Maastricht still plays an important role in the international world. A lot of conferences are being organized as well as the signing of transnational treaties. Moreover, lots of tourists come to Maastricht to taste the burgundy ambiance of the south of The Netherlands.
The municipality of Maastricht wants to preserve and promote the international character of the city. Partially, this is done by the programme Maastricht Europe. Maastricht wants to continue her European role in the future and wants to profile the city more in Europe.
This can only be done by a broad approach, together with the province, the universities, the European (educational) institutes and the regional business community of Maastricht. The programme Maastricht Europe gives an impulse to the promotion of the international character, together with other parties, by organizing international symposia, conferences and events.
