Maastricht celebrates Europe
Maastricht is unmistakably a European city. It lies at the heart of Europe, at short distance from Belgium, Germany, France and Luxemburg. The city has always had a European character during its rich history. Maastricht is the city where in 1992 the famous Maastricht Treaty was signed, which led to the European Union being founded. It is also the city where a new currency, the Euro, was born. This is something we are extremely proud of. On 7 February 2007, it will be exactly 15 years since the Treaty of Maastricht was signed. This historical event of great significance will be celebrated on a grand scale throughout the year. We will also be celebrating the Treaty of Rome, as it formed the basis for the Treaty of Maastricht; 2007 marks its 50th anniversary.
On this website you will find detailed information on both treaties and the many festivities we will be organising.
Come and join us, and help us celebrate in style!
